As the Gallerist of ARTclectic Gallery, I was truly honored to serve as the Judge for the Women’s Art Club of Hamilton (WACH) art show this year!

WACH is a relatively new art club on the local regional art scene, having been organized in May 2022 to support female artists in the Hamilton, Ohio area and fostering their creative growth and community.  In a relatively short period of time, they have attracted over 90 members and organized numerous events, including three art shows!

This year's show includes 90 juried entries from over 40 artists. The Opening Reception is on Saturday, February 14th, 5:30-7:30 pm at Fitton Center For Creative Arts when the award ribbons will be displayed on the winning art pieces.

Judging an art show is never about finding a single “right” answer. Art is deeply personal—created from lived experience, intuition, experimentation, and skill—and each piece carries its own voice. As I moved through the exhibition, I was struck by the range of perspectives, media, techniques, and emotional resonance on display. From bold, confident statements to quieter, more contemplative works, the show reflected a broad spectrum of artistic exploration.

My approach to judging centers on a balance of technical skill, creativity, and intent. I look for work where technique supports the idea, where choices feel intentional, and where the artist’s voice comes through clearly—whether loudly or subtly. What made this show especially rewarding was how often those elements aligned. Selecting award recipients was no easy task.

Elizabeth Rohrbaugh, WACH President and Watercolorist

Beyond the awards themselves, what stood out most was the sense of community. WACH clearly provides a space where women artists feel encouraged to grow, take risks, and share their work openly. That kind of environment matters. It’s where meaningful art continues to evolve.

I’m grateful to Elizabeth Rohrbaugh, the Club President and Show Chair, for the invitation and for the trust she placed in me as a juror.  Experiences like this reinforce why I do what I do: support local artists, celebrate artistic skill and creative courage, and continue to be delighted by work that challenges and inspires.

Congratulations to all the participating artists and a heartfelt thanks to the Women’s Art Club of Hamilton for a wonderful show!
